A complete wayfinding study of existing subway graphics for the New York City Transit Authority resulted in recommendations to make the subway more user friendly and visually comfortable in the New Millennium. Enhancements included bolder station identity, new directional arrows, more visible typography, better use of the station architecture for passenger information, neighborhood trailblazers, clearer communication for the sight and physically impaired and proposals for new system-wide electronic messaging...and judicious location of advertising panels.
