An exhaustive study of the subway wayfinding graphic standards for New York Transit in the new millennium resulted in recommendations to make the subway more user friendly and visually noticeable in the new era. Enhancements included bolder station identity, new directional arrows, more visible typography, sensible use of the station architecture for passenger information, neighborhood trailblazers, clearer communication for the sight and physically impaired, and proposals for new system-wide electronic messaging.
